Installation FAQs

What should be considered when choosing a location for the Aerial Feeding Station? Noting the 14 foot height, it is important that the AFS is located such that viewing is at a comfortable level. Placing it closer to second-story windows, lower down on hillsides, or at a distance will prevent being too close underneath. Also, make sure the feeders on the AFS are 7 to 9 feet away from locations where squirrels can jump or drop from.

What is needed for installation? We have found the following tools to be helpful when installing the AFS: a post hole digger, a digging bar, a shovel, a wheelbarrow or comparable cement mixing tub, a level (one that can attach to a post is best), a large measured water container, a box cutter, a socket set, a Phillips head screwdriver, an adjustable crescent wrench, a rubber mallet, and a short ladder or three-foot high box to rest the AFS on when it is horizontal on the ground.

Do I need cement? Yes, two 60 lb. bags of general-purpose posthole cement should be sufficient. Consider an extra backup bag in the event your post hole must be enlarged to clear any obstructing rocks or roots.

How easy is it to install? For the moderately handy person, installation is relatively easy. Installation tasks include: digging the post hole, mixing cement, leveling a post, screwing together feeder components, and raising up the 14 foot pole.

How long does installation of the Aerial Feeding Station take? Overall, installation takes several hours, noting that this time is spread out over multiple days to allow the post hole cement to set.
