Chirp Celebrates Its Third Year In Business
On November 5th, 2021, over 150 people visited Chirp’s Backyard Event Center to celebrate the 3rd Hatchiversary. Warmed by spiced cider and bird-friendly coffee, wild-bird enthusiasts and nature-lovers alike gathered outside for Chirp’s grandest celebration yet.
Happy Bird-day, Chirp!
Chirp Nature Center began as an experiment 3 years ago with a single pop-up tent at the local Farmer’s Market. Since then, Chirp’s efforts to connect people to nature using wild birds as inspiration have led to a thriving business in the Big Bear Lake’s West Village. As guests mingled, The MountainTop Strings of California and “Singing for the Birds” artists performed bird-themed music in the backyard event center. To top off the evening, party-goers screened an exclusive interview between internationally acclaimed author, Richard Louv, and Chirp Owner, Randy Putz.
An Exclusive Conversation With Richard Louv: Our Wild Calling
During the interview, Richard explained “Nature-Deficit Disorder,” a phrase coined in his book “Last Child in the Woods.” As Randall and Richard dug into “Our Wild Calling,” Richard revealed how connecting with animals can transform our lives and save theirs. Finally, Richard challenged listeners to pay attention and participate in Nature’s great conversation surrounding us. Watch the entire interview on Chirp’s Youtube channel or by clicking the video below. Signed copies of Richard’s books: Last Child in the Woods, Our Wild Calling, and The Nature Principle are still available at Chirp (while supplies last).
Treats, Sweets and Thank Yous
Owners Beth Wheat and Randall Putz were grateful to celebrate this milestone with the Big Bear Valley and made sure their guests didn’t leave the Hatchiversary empty-handed. In addition to hors d’eouvres and birthday cupcakes, guests received gift bags with Chirp exclusives as a thank you for the community’s ongoing support.
Check out the photographs of guests, goodies, and a celebration worth squawking about.

Great way to celebrate CHIRPS 3rd anniversary, with so many great Big Bear Valley residents in attendance! AND… awesome intertainment, with great singers and the Strings group! Loved every minute and hour of it! AND… the great bird presentation via Randy and Richard Louv re The Wild Bird Calling and more, was fantastic! AND…. loved all the CHIRP goodies in the gift bag. Tomorrow, I’m gonna make some home made coffee w/the BIRD Coffee Seeds, that one of your great staff members, did a grinding for me, as I don’t have a coffee grinder! Smells soooo good! Thanks again and again for coming up with that a great idea to have a great “bird” business, CHIRP!!!! That’s where I get all my bird seeds and bird feeders!!!!
