Last July we introduced our first coffee tasting series, which set us on a path to fully embracing the wonderful world of Bird Friendly coffee. This leads to an even smaller number of people considering the source of their coffee or understanding the effects of coffee farming on communities, agricultural lands, forests, and bird populations worldwide.

Available in Light, Medium, and Dark roasts, as well as decaf, our coffee is 100% certified Bird Friendly, Organic, and Fair Trade. Our different roasts pay homage to Big Bear Lake native birds, including the Western Bluebird, which our Chirp logo was inspired by. The Smithsonian Standard
The Bird Friendly certification, created by Smithsonian scientists in the late ’90s for coffee and recently extended to cocoa, surpasses other certifications in preserving bird habitats. This initiative aims to protect habitats and migratory songbirds, offering a habitat that supports a diverse mix of canopy cover, tree height, and biodiversity beneficial for birds and wildlife.
Bird Friendly coffees stand out as the sole shade-grown, organic coffees worldwide, verified by independent auditors according to standards set by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. These standards, derived from extensive research, are scientifically validated to create environments for birds that are nearly as beneficial as untouched forests.
Moreover, Bird Friendly certification guarantees absolute purity of the product. Unlike some other certifications that tolerate a mix of non-certified goods or allow dilution—permitting products to contain as little as 30 percent certified content while still bearing their certification mark—Bird Friendly ensures 100 percent of its product meets their rigorous criteria.
